On Eel Day the Ely Hereward Rotary Club had a stall on Jubilee Gardens with a wide variety of plants on offer. These were snapped up by appreciative customers, as were the homemade marmalade and marmalade muffins made by members of the club, raising £400 for the Mansa Colley Bojang School in The Gambia, which the club has been supporting for a number of years.
This money will enable a kitchen to be built at the school, where the pupils, many of whom come from poor families will be able to have a nourishing meal in the middle of the day.
The club also had an impromptu bucket collection on the day for the Nepal disaster victims, raising £50, and at the Ribe Twinning Dinner on the Sunday evening did a similar collection, raising a further £550, to help purchase a Shelterbox providing immediate emergency accommodation for the victims.
