City of Ely Swimming Club’s 14 years and under qualifiers wrapped up the final weekend of the Eastern Regional Swimming Championships over the three days of the Bank Holiday weekend at the UEA Sportspark, Norwich.
Competing in the 11-12 years age category, Maximilian Veiga swam in 50m &100m Butterfly, 50m & 100m Backstroke, 50m & 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley, also competing in his age group final for four events and winning the regional gold medal in both 50m and 100m Backstroke.
Georgia Holgate, also swimming as an 11-12 year old, competed in the 50m, 100m & 200m Butterfly, 50m & 100m Freestyle and 50m & 100m Backstroke reaching the final of 200m Butterfly winning the regional bronze medal.
Daniel Kendall qualified for 400m Individual Medley, 100m & 200m Butterfly, 200m, 400m & 1,500m Freestyle. Amelie Hawksley swam in 200m Butterfly, Tia Hill in 50m Breaststroke and Thomas Alderton in 100m Breaststroke.
Elaine Hill, City of Ely’s head coach said “To gain the regional qualifying times is a huge achievement for any swimmer as they are set to produce fierce competition between the very best swimmers in the Eastern Region and then to also make it to a final or win medals is amazing. All of the swimmers from this weekend and Hannah Turner and Iona Trainer competing in the over 14 years eastern regionals at the start of May should be proud of what their hard work has achieved.”
In a busy bank holiday weekend for the club, Ely swimmers also successfully competed at the Fenland Open Meet in Whittlesey on Sunday 26th May gaining many personal best times and medals. Special congratulations go to Oliver Davey who won the top boy award in the boy age 9 category; Bryony-Rose Brodie who was joint top girl in the age 9 category and Lexi Harrison joint top girl in the age 11 category. Ely’s medal winners included Bryony-Rose Brodie 3 bronze, 2 silver; Lexi Harrison 3 silver, 2 gold; Oliver Davey 5 gold; Lynden Long 3 bronze; Finley Jones 1 silver, 1 gold; Tia Hill 3 gold; Orla Harrison 4 silver; Adam Jones 1 bronze. There were also excellent swims from Megan Clarke, Olivia Brodie, Kaci Gibson, Amber Lloyd, Erin-Mae Carey and Charlie Jarvis.
