Green space to close over summer

An Ely green space popular with dog walkers, cyclists and joggers will be closed for the entire summer to make way for sewage works.
On Monday Anglia Water will start laying a new sewer pipe within the open park area between Downham Road and West Fen Road.
Version 2Anglia Water workThe work is expected to take 12 weeks, which means the park will be shut to the public from 7.30am to 6pm throughout the week and sometimes on Saturday.
This will include the school summer holidays.
The park borders Downham Road, West Fen Road, Mallow Close, Teasel Drive and Columbine Road.
Anglia Water plan to lay down a new sewer pipe to take flows from a new development to an existing pumping station.
In a letter sent to nearby residents, Anglia Water said: “We have planned the work to minimise disruption but a project of this scale may cause some disturbance, such as noise and dust, so we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
The company plans to set up a site compound and office within the park area next to the Downham Road entrance.
Access to the working area will be restricted although a section of the footpath will be available for residents.
The green space south of West Fen Road will not be affected.
