It would be “outrageous” to close Minor Injury Units at Ely, Doddington and Wisbech, North East Cambridgeshire MP Steve Barclay has told Spotted in Ely this evening.
Mr Barclay said he had decided to publicise a leaked report by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, recommending the closure of the three units. He has pledged his support to keep them open.

“It would be outrageous to close the MIUs and I will do all I can to prevent this, starting with flagging the risk in the media today and making my views clear to NHS bosses. I will be having further meetings to lobby to protect these services.”
The report has sparked a petition by Ely resident Emma Watson today, calling on the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group to save these vital services. By 10pm it had 1485 signatures.
Spotted in Ely has also launched a campaign to ensure that the unit at the Princess of Wales Hospital remains open. We have been inundated with incredibly touching stories about people’s experiences at the Ely unit.
