Raising a Glass for Ely Cinema

Babylon ARTS’ new Chair of Trustees, Linda McCord attended the Ely CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) annual celebration on Saturday 14th March to receive an incredible donation towards the Ely Cinema campaign. The group had raised £800 at their annual Beer Festival held at The Maltings, Ely and then held an additional raffle, raising a further £120, bringing the total donation to £920.

Claire Somerville, chief executive at Babylon ARTS said “Given the current circumstances relating to the temporary closure of the cinema, it’s really great to be able to share news of this generous donation from Ely CAMRA. It will help ensure we can come back strong, as soon as it is possible to re- open. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Ely CAMRA for choosing Ely Cinema as the charitable enterprise to support this year.”

This generous donation brings the campaign total to just over £12,500, with earlier events such as actor, Himesh Patel’s visit to the cinema in September also raising significant funds.

Ely Cinema had seen positive growth in audience numbers over the last year and had been mid-way through the Awards season when Babylon ARTS’ had to pause all screenings due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, preparations are underway to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so.

Meanwhile for those missing the National Theatre and Royal Opera House Live screenings, both venues are offering free access to a selection of their productions via their YouTube channels

“We’ll be back!” chief executive, Babylon Arts.
