DONATIONS READY TO BE SORTED AT THE FOODANK STORE
Ely Foodbank has held its first collection at Sainsbury’s Ely since being voted by shoppers as the stores new local charity of the year. In total volunteers collected approximately 12 trolleys of food on Friday 31st July and Saturday 1st August, which is the equivalent of 700 kg, enough to feed 70 people.
The event, which took place over the two days, was arranged to officially launch the stores partnership with Ely Foodbank which is set to run until the summer of 2016. Cathy Wright, Project Director of Ely Foodbank said: “We’re delighted to be receiving this support from customers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s Ely which will help to raise awareness of Ely Foodbank.
“The donated items really will benefit local people suffering from food poverty and we’re really looking forward to working with the store over the coming months”. Ely Foodbank was set up in 2012 and provides three days of emergency food supplies and additional support to local people in crisis.
