St John Ambulance to Open New Badger Unit in Ely

Health charity St John Ambulance has announced plans for a new Badger unit in Ely, which is due to open in January. The unit has vacancies for young people aged between seven and ten to volunteer as Badgers and learn age-appropriate first aid, along with a number of other useful life skills. In addition the charity has opportunities for adults to volunteer as youth leaders in Ely and work with the new Badgers as they progress their volunteering journey with St John. Other volunteering opportunities are also available at the unit for anyone wishing to enrol as a Cadet (aged 10 to 17), adult first aider or in a support role. The new unit will be based at Centre E, 24 Barton Road, Ely and all new Badgers and youth leaders will be asked to attend a meeting evening every Wednesday where first aid and other skills will be taught. Kat Cattani, Ely Unit Manager, said: “We’re looking forward to opening the doors to the new Badger unit in January and to welcoming all our new volunteers. We have thousands of young people volunteering with us around the country who benefit from a fun and safe environment where they can learn first aid and other useful skills. They are our next generation of first aiders and many of them go on to university to study healthcare-related degrees and subsequently go into careers in the sector. I’d love to hear from local families and also from anyone interested in enrolling as a youth leaders and helping these youngsters achieve their full potential.” Anyone interested in these opportunities can email Kat at kat.cattani@sja.org.uk for an informal discussion.
