Electrical Design Engineer required to work at Oil & Gas Systems’ modern offices based in Ely, near the rail station:
LOCATION: Ely, Cambridgeshire
POSITION TYPE: Full-time, permanent
HOURS OF WORK:0900-1700 Monday to Friday (with 1 hour lunch daily)
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to work across the company with our Proposals, Projects and Engineering teams for project-specific electrical application work within the Oil & Gas industry.
Main duties include:
•Conceptual electrical scope at the proposals stage to determine safe and economical build; taking into account space restrictions and access & maintenance requirements
•Assuring the integrity of the developed package by managing change control and determining technical and commercial implications resulting from modifications or addition to scope
•Detailed electrical design work throughout the life of each project in support of the Project Manager, providing solutions to issues that may arise
•Preparation of documentation relating to electrical systems (e.g. instrumentation hook-up, creation of electrical wiring diagram and schematics)
•Understanding of hazardous areas and the design of equipment for use in hazardous areas
•Review and interpretation of customer specifications and national & international codes, and ensuring that best industry practice and Health, Safety & Environmental considerations are applied and adhered to
•Organising the purchasing and expediting of good and services, and controlling sub-contractors and suppliers in support of the project manager
•Attendance at key meetings such as clarifications, handovers, design reviews and close-out, both in-house and with the customer, as required
•Attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests on bought-in equipment
•Providing technical support for general electrical issues on-site and during build and test.
•Working with the customer to resolve technical matters related to project-specific requirements
•Continually exploring opportunities for improvements in efficiency by developing new standard products, modularising packages, and extending company standards
•Document review and checking of electrical designs
•Supervision of CAD draughting staff in producing electrical wiring diagrams, protection schematics and mechanical general arrangement drawings
•Working closely with the Instrumentation and Control engineers to ensure package continuity and functionality
Candidates applying will hold a HNC in Electrical Engineering as a minimum (or equivalent qualification), any additional
Engineering-related qualifications will also be of interest (for example ONC, NVQ3 or above, in engineering design).
Experience in LV electrical engineering design for industrial distribution systems, control panel engineering design and hazardous area design in gas areas to ATEX requirements would be an advantage, and it is expected that you will possess an excellent knowledge of relevant electrical standards. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required. Proficiency in AutoCAD will be an advantage.
This is mainly an office-based role, although some travel to site and to our workshop in South Wales may be required from time to time.
