Avalanche of success for Ely at County Champs

2018 has seen a long run of success for City of Ely Swimming Club at the Cambridgeshire ASA County Championships with members competing across distances from 50m to 1,500m in Whittlesey, Corby and Cambridge.
The Championships culminated on Saturday at Parkside Pools Cambridge with the team relays.  Overall Ely’s team of 36 swimmers competing in individual events finished 4th out of the 10 competing Cambridgeshire clubs.  The avalanche of success for Ely’s young swimmers included 16 Gold medals, 23 Silver medals, 9 medals, 46 sprint finalists, new regional times, over 100 Personal Bests and 34 smashed Club Records.  
Individual success included top 3 placings in their age groups for Maximilian Veiga (pictured) overall top boy in Age 11 category and Daniel Kendall placed 3rd in the Age 12 category.  Along the way Maximilian won 9 Golds, 4 Silvers, 6 club records and new regional times whilst Daniel gained 2 Golds, 4 Silvers, 1 Bronze, 5 club records and more regional times.  County Champs also provided major success in the pool for Iona Trainer with 3 Golds, 9 Silvers, 3 Bronzes, improved regional times and an impressive 15 new club records whilst Thomas Alderton gained his first regional time to go with his 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medals.   
Other medal winners were Georgia Holgate with 1 Gold and 2 Silvers (plus 1 club record), Ben Alderton with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, Joseph Alsop with 1 Bronze, Tia Hill with 1 Bronze, Alex Brewis with 1 Gold, Jake Challenger with 1 silver (and 1 club record) and William Haylett with 1 Bronze and a new club record.   The successes continued with Jennifer Holland (1 sprint final), Amelie Hawksley (1 sprint final), Orla Harrison (3 sprint finals), Gina Brewis (2 sprint finals already having regional times), Robert Banwell (1 sprint final), Jasmine Thompson (3 sprint finals and 3 club records),  Kendle Putter (2 sprint finals), Daniel Millard (1 sprint final) and Lexi Harrison (1 club record).  Other swimmers qualifying to swim individually for Ely at the County Championships were George Sporle, Alex Millard, Olivia Brodie, Inez Trainer, Mia Tandon, Rose Beckman, Lauren Challenger, Harriet Smith, Breanna Kehren, Hannah Turner, Charlotte Nash, Grace Stevenson, Enya Freimanaite, Grace Higgins, Grace Lowther and Sarah Hardiment.  
Joining the event for Saturdays relays were Jessica Hill, Adrian Kwiecien, Sophia Abbot, Dominic Jones, Sasha Ellis, Alan Taylor, Susie Holland and Derrell Jackson helping Ely finish 4th in the relays also.
