Spotted in Ely® Visits New Local Business Fodder Fen Farm Near Little Downham

Fodder Fen Farm, Luke, James and Marc

From curious piglets running over to say hello to learning more about life on a working local farm, members of the Spotted in Ely® team recently spent time at Fodder Fen Farm near Little Downham after being invited by Luke, James and Marc to see behind the scenes of the new family run business.

Currently in its first year, Fodder Fen Farm was created after James originally acquired pigs to help revitalise woodland on the property. With the help of friends, including a butcher wanting to get involved, the idea quickly grew into what is now Fodder Fen Farm Sausages.

The business has already started building a growing reputation locally for its sausages and pork products, with Luke, James and Marc sharing a passion for sustainable, ethically sourced food and quality farming within the Cambridgeshire Fens.

During the visit, the team were shown around the farm, met the pigs and piglets and heard more about the day to day reality of farm life. One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the locally sourced piglets eagerly running over to greet visitors.

From feeding and caring for the animals through to preparing products for customers, it gave a real insight into the amount of work taking place behind the scenes long before products ever reach people’s plates.

“People are often surprised by how much work goes into farming day to day, so it was great to show the Spotted in
Ely® team around and let them meet the pigs and piglets. We’re proud to be part of the local community and
to produce food locally here in the Fens.”

Luke from Fodder Fen Farm

“It was lovely to meet the team and see the pigs and
piglets up close. You can really see the amount of
time and care that goes into looking after
the animals and producing local food.”

Ruth, Chair of Spotted in Ely®

Many local residents may already recognise Fodder Fen Farm from local markets, events and social media, where the business has quickly started making a name for itself with its range of outdoor reared pork products and sausages.

The visit offered a chance to learn more about modern farming and the people behind one of the area’s newest local businesses.
